Leather Tannery Waste, Filtration, BOD, COD, TSSAbstract
One industry that generates a lot of waste water is the leather tanning industry. This is due to the fact that one ton of raw leather generates 30 to 35 cubic meters of wastewater during the tanning process. Chemicals used in the production process include chrome, sodium sulfide, ammonium sulfate, table salt, and sulfuric acid. Leather can only absorb about 60% to 70% chromium sulfate solution. Therefore, this study aims to determine the levels of BOD, COD and TSS parameters. The implementation of this research is to test the levels of BOD, COD and TSS using a simple filtration method. The tested waste is UD tannery waste. Setia Kulit Mandiri. BOD levels in sample 1 inlet and outlet values are 65.6 mg/l and 54.2 mg/l, in sample 2 inlet and outlet values are 66.4 mg/l and 55.1 mg/l, in sample 3 inlet and outlet values are 67.6 mg/l and 56.3 mg/l. In sample 1 after using filtration there is a decrease of 31.8 mg/l giving 41.36%. COD levels in sample 1 inlet and outlet values are 245.8 mg/l and 227.2 mg/l, in sample 2 inlet and outlet values are 246.9 mg/l and 228.4 mg/l, in sample 3 inlet and outlet values are 247.1 mg/l and 228.7 mg/l. In sample 1 after using filtration there was a decrease of 115.3 mg/l, giving an efficiency of 49.24%. TSS levels in sample 1 inlet and outlet values are 77 mg/l and 64 mg/l, in sample 2 inlet and outlet values are 78 mg/l and 66 mg/l, in sample 3 inlet and outlet values are 79 mg/l and 67 mg/l. In sample 1 after using filtration there is a decrease to 26 mg/l giving an efficiency of 58.75%. Turbidity and color decreased after undergoing a simple filtration process. The BOD, COD and TSS levels of samples 1, 2 and 3 decreased after going through the outlet process and after using the filtration method.
